Los Angeles radio stations cannot cut through the San Gabriel Mountains to reach the High Desert area of North L.A. County, but the San Fernando Valley can pick up the Antelope Valley/desert stations.

The growing northern suburban area includes Mojave, Lancaster, Palmdale and Apple Valley with 10 stations serving the region.

"These are the stations in a fringe market of the biggest radio market in the world," declared Ivan Ladizinsky, general manager of Antelope Broadcasting Company, which owns three stations in the area.

The news/talk station station, KHJJ-1380 AM of Lancaster, carries NBC News. All-sports KAVL-610 AM broadcasts Dodgers, Bruins, college sports, NFL and USA News.

Rock is well-represented in the Antelope Valley with two modern rock stations, KAVS 97.7 for Mojave and one classic rocker, KLKX 93.5 out of Rosamond. There's one adult contemporary outlet, KGMX 106.3 FM.

Country fans choose between two frequencies: Tehachapi's KTPI 103.1, which plays modern country; and KVOY1350 AM, home of traditional country music.

Religious programming is found on Christian KAVC FM 105.5; and Spanish-speaking listeners have KUTY
